Facilities Management Partners, CFM and The TLM Group LLC provided Owner’s Representative services for the Design and Construction of the Bronx Preparatory Charter School. This “not for profit” Charter School raised the capital funds through private donations and philanthropy.
Built in 2 phases due to budget constraints, the School opened up the Middle Academy, grades 5 through 8 in August of 2004. The Phase 1 building consisted of 40,000 square feet with 2 science labs, a music room, art room, computer room, 22 classrooms and a cafeteria.
Phase 2 was completed in March of 2006 with the addition of the high school with a library, computer labs, a regulation size gymnasium and 550 seat auditorium.
This building was designed and constructed for a hard cost of $234/sf utilizing metal panel siding and prefabricated panels of porcelain tile. The structure is pre-cast concrete on steel, which eliminated the requirement for ceilings in many locations and allowed for a lofty feel in the classrooms.
The total project budget was $22 million.
